Meeting of the Working Group on Evaluation of Safety and Pollution Hazards of Chemicals and Preparation of Consequential Amendments held at BLG 9, 4-7 April 2005

The INTERTANKO Chemicals Manager, as part of the INTERTANKO delegation, participated in a meeting of the Working Group on the Evaluation of Safety and Pollution Hazards of Chemicals and Preparation of Consequential amendments held at the Ninth Session of the Sub-Committee on Bulk Liquids and Gases (BLG9). The Group met 4-6 April 2005, presenting the Work Group in Plenary on 7 April. 

In accordance with the instructions given by the Sub-Committee, the Working Group discussed the following issues: 

- Evaluation of cleaning additives;  

- Review of MEPC.2 Circ (provisional classification of liquid substances transported in bulk) with particular focus on the future of List 1 within that document;  

- Examination of the practical problems that may arise in connection with the implementation of the requirements under the revised MARPOL Annex II and the revised IBC Code; 

- Development of guidelines on the completion of the BLG Product Data Reporting Form; 

- Consideration of the status of the outstanding guidelines from MEPC 51 referenced in the 2002 Consolidated Edition of MARPOL Annex 73/78 - Guidelines for the provisional assessment of liquids transported in bulk; 

- Procedures for Port state Control adopted by the Organization by Resolution A.787 (19) and amended by A.882 (21); 

- Regulation 5.3 of the revised Annex II for Gas Carriers; 

- Guidelines for the transport and handling of limited amounts of hazardous and noxious liquid substances in bulk in offshore support vessels; 

- Preparation of the work programme for ESPH 11 to be held 24-28 October 2005 at IMO.
