Antifouling paints

The programme on anti-fouling paints is aimed at reducing the impact by chemicals introduced into the marine environment via ships' anti-fouling systems.

  • INTERTANKO encourages the development and use of effective tin-free anti-fouling systems on all new buildings, supports the development of the IMO Convention, albeit with due regard to the practicalities of certification and policing together with the available option of using a sealer coat.
  • INTERTANKO encourages the membership to report to INTERTANKO any problems encountered when using the tin-free systems in order to ensure that other members do not commit to the use of potentially ineffective coatings.
