IMO issues advice on avian influenza

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has issued guidance to the maritime community on behalf of the World Health Organization (WHO) in relation to minimising the risks that may present themselves to seafarers from an avian influenza pandemic.

In particular the guidance stresses the importance of acting to mitigate the spread of the influenza from possible human-human transmission should a new variant develop.
