Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC 55) works on key environmental issues

Moved away from its headquarters on Albert Embankment, London, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) conducted this week the 55th session of the Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC 55) at London's Central Hall in Westminster, the site of the very first United Nations meeting in 1947.

Perhaps demonstrating the increasing importance of environmental issues, this temporary location was filled to capacity with large delegations from most states, ensuring expertise on ballast water, ship recycling and air emissions, among many other issues.
