U.S. Senate hearing on ballast water management

The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee's National Ocean Policy Study Subcommittee has announced that on Wednesday 15 June 2005, at 9:30 a.m., in room 253 of the RussellBuilding, it will hold a hearing on Ballast Water Invasive Species Management and Threats to Coral Reefs.

This hearing will examine the introduction of non-native species through the discharge of ballast water from ships and the current threats to coral reefs. It will not focus on any particular legislative proposal but discussion will likely address S. 363, the Ballast Water Management Act of 2005, as well as the re-authorisation of the Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000. Witnesses will be announced when available.
