BLG 11 - MARPOL Annex II, 3000m3 cargo tank filling restrictions - ongoing debate

Further to our previous Weekly NEWS articles, which may be accessed here, members are advised of two further developments on this issue:

  • The issue of MARPOL Annex II, 4.1.3 was discussed at the meeting of IMO's Bulk Liquids and Gases Sub-Committee (BLG) in London this week (16-19 April 2007), by way of a submission by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) seeking clarification. The BLG agreed that the matter should be deferred to MEPC 56, which will meet in July 2007. We anticipate that the MEPC will be in a position to be able to provide suitable guidance for the industry during MEPC 56.

  • In this regard, we would like to bring to members' attention a joint submission made last week to MEPC 56 by Norway, Marshall Islands, Singapore and INTERTANKO, a copy of which may be accessed here.

Members will be kept fully advised of any further developments as appropriate
