A proposal has been put forward by the California State Lands Commission which will reduce the current Exotic Species Control Fund fee of USD 400 to USD 200 per vessel. The original ruling entered into force in January 2000 and is applicable to all vessels travelling to a Californian port from outside the US Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

A notice requesting comments has been issued by the Commission, who have explained that the current fee charged to vessels to cover the California Ballast Water Management Program exceeds the amount now required. Comments regarding this proposal must be received by the Commission no later than 25 June. Notification of the Commission’s decision to adopt the proposed rule making will be issued after the 25 June deadline and an update will be given in the INTERTANKO Weekly News.
