Calibration of magnetic compasses in Panama Canal waters

Further to our article in last week’s Weekly NEWS no. 38/2003 we once again draw your attention to Advisory to Shipping No. A-34-2003 issued by the Panama Canal Authority ( PCA ) regarding the calibration and repair of magnetic compasses within Panama Canal waters.

Instances have been reported of magnetic compasses having been calibrated or repaired in Panama Canal waters without adherence to the established procedures.
