Crankpin bearing running hot leads to damaged crankshaft

A Det Norske Veritas (DNV) casualty information bulletin highlights a case where the oil mist detector warning alarm drew attention to a hot crankpin bearing, which itself led to the crankshaft being damaged beyond repair, causing the vessel to go off hire for one month.
