Data missing from IBC Code required by 31 December 2005

As reported in INTERTANKO Weekly NEWS No. 50 of 10 December 2004 the International Bulk Chemical (IBC) Code was adopted at the IMO by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC). A joint MSC Circ. 1128/MEPC Circ. 423 has also been produced containing a list of products that have been omitted from either Chapter 17 or 18 of the IBC Code due to the lack of essential data (safety, pollution or both) in order to assist the industry in supplying the missing data.

To allow sufficient time for evaluation by the GESAMP/EHS working group [GESAMP (Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection) Working Group on the Evaluation of the Hazards of Harmful Substances Carried by Ships (EHS)] the data should be sent to the IMO secretariat by 31 December 2005.

The Industry has been given until this deadline to provide the missing data so that carriage of these products may be permitted under revisions to the IBC Code expected to enter into force on 1 January 2007.
