European Parliament, NGO and industry workshop on air emissions from ships

A delegation from industry (INTERTANKO, ECSA) and environmental NGO’s (European Environmental Bureau and Bellona Europa) met Finnish MEP Heidi Hautala, the Rapporteur for the sulphur in fuel Directive, to plan a European workshop on air emissions from ships.

The workshop will aim to raise awareness on air emissions from shipping in Europe and, in particular, to focus on aspects relating to the amendments of the sulphur in fuel Directive. Cooperation with the environmental NGOs on the workshop will allow all stakeholders to hold an open debate and provide a platform for a balanced discussion.

Although no date has been fixed, “sponsorship” for the event has been confirmed by Ms Hautala and arrangements are underway to secure a venue within the European Parliament in Brussels. A provisional date has been suggested for the beginning of March, which will also allow the Rapporteur to present her report on the Directive during the workshop.
