Houston Pilot Authority issues new ruling on "widebody vessels"

The Houston Pilot Authority has issued a new ruling relating to "widebody vessels". This will affect vessels running the Houston Ship Channel (HSC) from the Sea Buoy up as far as Shell and Oil Tanking. The Houston Pilots stress that they wish to accommodate the needs of industry as far as possible. Further, in the interests of safety, Houston Pilots reserve the right to modify these guidelines based on operational experience, and state "We may require a certain amount of drag for selected wide bodies which in our judgment handle poorly in the HSC".
