IMO guidance on approved Pollution Prevention Equipment (PPE)

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has now made available the latest circular giving guidance on the approved MARPOL pollution prevention equipment (PPE) required to be fitted to ships. This covers oil filtering equipment, oil content meters for bilge alarms and oily water from cargo tanks, oil/water interface detectors, sewage treatment plants and shipboard incinerators.

MEPC.5/Circ.7 has been issued to ensure that the PPE installed on ships are those which have been tested and approved by Governments. However, it must be noted that the non-entry of equipment may not necessarily mean that such equipment has not yet been approved by Governments.
