INTERTANKO helps pave the way to smooth ship-shore interface

In view of the imminent 1st July implementation date for the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) and the US Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA), and to pave the way for the smoothest possible transition to the new regulations on maritime security, INTERTANKO has sent out a letter to the various organisations involved in the routine boarding of ships asking them to ensure that all their staff have a clear understanding of the requirements that will be imposed on them, and asked of them, by seagoing staff as they go about complying with the security code.

The letter highlights a few of the problems that shore staff may experience when boarding vessels and emphasises the importance of shore staff going about their duties in the spirit of the regulations and according to ship and shore security plans.
