INTERTANKO submission to IMO (MSC 82) on damage stability

Following discussion and agreement within the INTERTANKO Safety, Technical and Environmental Committee (ISTEC), Chemical Tanker Committee (CTC) and Chemical Tanker Sub-Committee Americas (CTSCA), INTERTANKO has made a submission MSC 82.18.4 to the 82nd session of the IMO Marine Safety Committee (MSC 82) in response to a submission MSC 82.18.3 from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden.

The INTERTANKO submission addresses various options to verify in service damage stability for some oil, chemical and gas tankers and suggests that an approved stability programme is an acceptable, practical solution to check that all loading conditions comply with damage as well as intact stability.

MSC 82 will meet 29 November-8 December 2006 in Istanbul. We will report on the outcome in due course.
