Implementation difficulties with Ship Sanitation Certificates (SSCS)

Further to our article in Weekly NEWS No. 38/2007 of 21 September 2007, several members have advised the Secretariat that they are experiencing difficulties obtaining ship sanitation certificates. INTERTANKO has therefore contacted the World Health Organization (WHO), the body responsible for the International Health Regulation (IHR), which requires that certificate.

 

The WHO advises that they are aware that some countries still have not implemented the new regulation, but they are developing guidelines and training tools to assist the implementation process.

 

Members are advised that the WHO administers a database of the ports that have the capabilities to issue the necessary certificates, which can be accessed here:
