Industry organisations call for study into Singapore Strait anchorage

Amendments to the traffic separation scheme in the Singapore Strait to allow a privately run transit anchorage in Indonesian waters in the western end of the busy waterway will come before the IMO Maritime Safety Committee meeting (MSC 78) over the next two weeks for formal adoption.

Last year the IMO Sub-committee on Safety of Navigation (NAV) approved these amendments. However, INTERTANKO, the Oil Companies’ Marine Forum (OCIMF), and the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) have proposed to the MSC that the matter be referred back to the NAV Sub-committee in order that the navigation and safety implications be fully reviewed prior to adoption by the MSC.
