Interim VIQs/ROVIQs to be issued to SIRE programme participants

As some of you may know, delays in the publication of the new 5th Edition of ISGOTT (International Safety Guide for Oil Tankers and Terminals) have resulted in an associated delay in the release of the new SIRE Vessel Inspection Questionnaire (VIQ) which has been ready for publication for some time. As the ISGOTT delays have not yet been resolved, the General Purpose Committee of Oil Companies’ International Marine Forum (OCIMF) has agreed that interim versions of the VIQ and Reorganised Vessel Inspection Questionnaire (ROVIQ) should be provided for use by SIRE Programme participants. These versions do not use the ISGOTT 5th Edition references.

The introductory notes that preface these documents describe how the VIQ and ROVIQs are to be used and how inspection findings using the printed Interim VIQ/ROVIQs are to be submitted using the current existing VIQ software. New software to accompany the Interim VIQs is now being prepared and this is likely to be released by the end of January 2005.

The preface to the VIQ and ROVIQs contains instructions to inspectors to record in the Additional Comments Section, at the end of Chapter 1 of each inspection report, a note to indicate that an inspection has been conducted using the Interim VIQ documents.

The Interim VIQs have already been sent to all OCIMF members that submit reports to SIRE. If you have not yet received copies, please contact your OCIMF member principals, or contact SIRE direct at david.savage@ocimf.com
