MSC 84 - Amendments to the ISM Code

A proposal to the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 84)  by the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and New Zealand promoting safe behaviour and safety culture onboard ships, suggested amendments to the ISM code requiring ship safety representation for a ship.

The proposal was considered by a working group but, after receiving the working group’s report, the Committee could not agree to adopt the amendments and postponed the decision to its next session, which will be MSC 85 in November this year.

However, the Committee agreed to harmonize the requirement for the extension of the validity of the Safety Management Certificate (SMC) with those of  SOLAS certificates and International Ship Security Certificte (ISSC).
