OCIMF's recommendations for Single Point Moorings

The Oil Companies' International Marine Forum (OCIMF) has recently published its fourth edition of the "Recommendations for Equipment Employed in the Bow Mooring of Conventional Tankers at Single Point Moorings".

A fundamental change in this edition is the recommendation that ship owners install higher rated bow chain stoppers and fairleads on new ships delivered during or after 2009. There are also changes to the recommendations concerning the use and positioning of winch storage drums and pedestal rollers for the handling of pick-up ropes.

Further, it recommends that owners of ships less than 150,000 tonnes (dwt) should consider the advantages of fitting two bow chain stoppers if they wish to visit the full range of terminals, some of which require ships less than 150,000 tonnes (dwt) to accept two chafe chains.
