Pilotage in Danish waters - cooperation for the future

Last week INTERTANKO met the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) and the Royal Danish Administration of Navigation and Hydrography (RDANH) in Copenhagen

The meeting was a follow-up to the letter of 10 October 2005 from the Danish Maritime Authority to various industry organisations, but also to subsequent talks and correspondence between INTERTANKO and the Danish Maritime Authority regarding pilotage in Danish waters, and in particular the IMO Resolution MSC.138(76)-Recommendations on Navigation through the Entrances to the Baltic Sea.

One outcome of this meeting was an agreement to form a "Users Group" consisting initially of representatives of INTERTANKO, INTERCARGO, the DMA, and the RDANH. However, INTERTANKO will also be seeking the support of other industry associations wishing to join the Users Group.

We believe this is a very positive step towards the future aimed at improving safety during times of pilotage by establishing effective mechanisms for feedback and response.
