Revised Panama Canal SOPEP regulation

The Panama Canal Authority’s (ACP) revised proposal for its Panama Canal SOPEP regulation contains one particular aspect which concerns INTERTANKO and other ship owners’ associations. It requires PCSOPEPs to be developed by individuals or organizations with at least three years of provable experience in the development of such pollution prevention and response plans.

INTERTANKO, and other organizations, have written to the ACP to express their concern. Click here to view INTERTANKO’s letter.

The ACP has replied that it appreciates our contributions to the process of developing the PCSOPEP regulation and that it will try and address these concerns. It does not preclude that PCSOPEPs be developed in-house so long as those involved have the credentials, training and experience to do so.
