Seafarers can pass on their safety concerns by using the Australian Confidential Marine Reporting Scheme (CMRS)

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has issued Marine Notice 10/2004 reminding mariners of the Confidential Marine Reporting Scheme (CMRS) administered by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

The aim of the scheme is to improve safety in Australian waters by enabling the ATSB to receive, assess and act on confidential reports to prevent, or reduce, the risks of marine accidents. Seafarers and others connected with the marine industry may now make their safety concerns known confidentially under the CMRS. Reports are processed in such a manner as to keep the identities of reporters confidential.
