Singapore – reducing the burden of inspections on smaller tankers at independent terminals

Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) is establishing a pilot scheme in Singapore to ease the burden of inspections for small tankers at independent terminals. The scheme will follow the practice established under the SIRE system, but with a reduced questionnaire. It will allow terminals in Singapore to access reports on vessels and so reduce multiple inspections. The need for a scheme was recognised as many of the smaller vessels do not have reports entered in the SIRE system and many of the independent terminals are not able to access the SIRE database.
