The Panama Canal Authority responds on minimum draught requirements for SBT tankers transiting the Panama Canal in ballast

Reference is made to INTERTANKO’s recent article on this issue, published in Weekly NEWS No. 18/06 dated 5 May 2006. 

INTERTANKO is again pleased to have received a response from the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) dated 23 May 2006 (click here to view), which offers detailed rationale behind the draught requirements for SBT tankers transiting the canal in ballast; explains their relevance and the consequences of breach; and gives guidance on the necessary formalities required for ships unable to comply.

INTERTANKO hopes that the information provided will be useful to members, but at the same time we invite any further comments which may shed further light on the practical compliance with the referred requirements.
