U.K. – seafarer fatigue study

The U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has released a Seafarer Fatigue Study, which was conducted by Cardiff University on behalf of the MCA and the Health and Safety Executive.

The research findings indicate that many seafarers are working well in excess of applicable limits and are apparently under-reporting their hours of work.

INTERTANKO believes this is an important study, whose findings and recommendations should be noted by members.

The report will be circulated to INTERTANKO's Human Element in Shipping Committee for  review and consideration.
