VOCON receives Seatrade Award

At the Annual Seatrade Awards held in London on 7 April INTERTANKO’s VOCON procedure received a runners-up award under the category of Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment. The VOC emissions reducing operational technique, as developed by Dr Timothy Gunner, was awarded in the same category as a ballast water treatment concept using a disinfecting technique, with the winner being a biodegradable stern tube lubricant.

The event also saw winners in three other categories including a search light system which incorporates the use of UV light to locate both persons in the water and pollution incidents at night. In the category of innovation in ship designs, a design which facilitates the access of wheelchair passengers onto cruise and ferry vessels won over three other concepts. The final category focused on IT applications in the shipping industry and was won by a web-based solution providing information about the requirements for competence and certificates for seafarers.

The Seatrade Personality Award went to Micky Arison of Carnival Corporation.
