Survey of the DGPS system in the Gulf

MENAS (Middle East Navigation Aids Service) in Bahrain designed and commissioned the IALA (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities) specification medium frequency (MF) Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) network in 1997. The system comprises of four DGPS beacon transmission stations, located in Bahrain, Kuwait, Abu-Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. The MENAS-operated DGPS network provides “free-to-air” dual beacon differential coverage to the marine community across the Gulf.

MENAS has launched a survey designed as part of a review process, in order to allow the organisation to tailor its services accurately to reflect the needs of end users.

‘GULF DGPS 2006’ is a User Consultation Survey to allow MENAS fully to understand the needs of the maritime community it serves. INTERTANKO encourages its members to offer their assistance by completing the enclosed questionnaire and forwarding it to the MENAS Maritime Operations Centre in Bahrain.
