Class Societies beginning the presentation of the Joint Tanker Project on Common Rules for double hulls

Since 2003 IACS has been developing Common Rules for structural scantlings of hull structures for double hull tankers and for bulk carriers. The Common Rules have been developed by two project teams:

-  Joint Tanker Project (JTP) dealing with the draft rules for double hull oil tankers, crude and products, of length greater than or equal to 150m, with the active participation of ABS, DNV and LR.

-      Joint Bulker Project (JBP) dealing with the draft Rules for double side skin bulk carriers of length greater than or equal to 90m, with the active participation of BV, CCS, GL, KR, NK, RINA and RS.

More details on these projects and their finalisation and implementation are given in a recent letter circulated by the IACS Chairman Mr. Ugo Salerno. Click here to view.

The two project teams are expected to circulate the first drafts at the beginning of June 2004 when meetings with the industry will commence. One of the first presentations will be organised in London on 28 June 2004 at the venue and time indicated in the invitation recently circulated. Click here to view. Members are invited to attend the presentation. We understand similar presentations will be organised in other parts of the world at dates soon to be announced.
