Owner and operator indicted for waste oil dumping

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon has indicted the owner of a bulk carrier, its operator, and its two senior engineers for violations of federal law related to the dumping of waste oil at sea. The indictment charges the defendants with conspiracy, obstruction of official proceedings, violation of oil pollution regulations, and making false statements to the Government. Crew members allegedly used a flexible hose to by-pass the oily water separator and pump waste oil directly overboard.
