Q&A web site on IACS Common Structural Rules

On 1 November 2006, the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) launched a web site containing Questions and Answers with regard to the IACS Common Structural Rules (CSR) on oil tankers and bulk carriers. This can be accessed at http://www.iacs.org.uk/csr/QA_CI.html

According to the new IACS Procedural Requirement for the Maintenance of CSRs, the IACS Secretariat is setting up a CSR Knowledge Centre which, i.a., answers relevant questions received from the industry. In a meeting with the industry this week, the IACS Secretariat decided they would answer questions for a period of ten days and those of relevance would be listed on the web site mentioned above.

In addition, the web site will also list Common Interpretations (CIs) on the CSRs as these are agreed upon. More details about the IACS Knowledge Centre for the CSRs Maintenance Procedures can be seen at http://www.iacs.org.uk/preqs/PR32.PDF or obtained from Gil Yong-Han at the IACS Secretariat, who is in charge of the CSR Knowledge Centre.
