Singapore Bunkering procedure for Annex VI (SS CP 60) submitted to IMO’s MEPC 49. Session

Singapore’s Technical Committee for Bunkering has submitted a paper to the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee’s 49th Session to take place 14-18 July 2003. The purpose of the paper is to share Singapore’s experience in the development and implementation of the Singapore Standard: Code of Practice for Bunkering by Bunker Barges/Tankers (SS CP 60: 1996).

The paper maintains that SS CP 60 has instilled confidence in the bunker industry in Singapore. The industry has grown from strength to strength with 20.1 million tonnes of bunkers supplied to more than 21,000 vessels in year 2002. On the other hand, the number of bunker disputes lodged with the MPA and the Singapore Shipping Association declined by about one-third to 23, when compared to 2001.

INTERTANKO is a member of Singapore’s Technical Committee and has given active support to these developments through our Bunker Sub-Committee whose recommendation was that Singapore present their latest procedures to IMO.
