Tanktech pressure/vacuum (p/v) valves

Further to our Weekly NEWS article of 1st July 2005 advising of interim EU measures on specific p/v valve types, we have received a communication from Tanktech Co., Ltd., Busan CityKorea.

In this, it states that it is its view the EU has expressed an Opinion and not imposed a Ban on the whole of its NEW-ISO-HV series valves. The company stresses that the issued item is only for the NEW-ISO-HV-80 (80A size) p/v valve. Incorrect booster discs of NEW-ISO-HV-80 have mostly been exchanged now on EU flag vessels, and are being used freely. Tanktech also stresses that although EU recommends that all sizes of NEW-ISO-HV carry out a new test, this does not necessarily mean the NEW-ISO-HV-Series has any defect.

Regarding the testing of NEW-ISO-HV-Series which is recommended from EU Commission Opinion, Tanktech is contacting Bureau Veritas, who issued the initial certification, and other related parties, for further discussion, and will announce any information as soon as the matter has been clarified and finalised.

INTERTANKO wishes to state that our Weekly NEWS article refered strictly to information as provided by the EU document "Commission Opinion or 9 June 2005 on interim measures taken by the government of Denmark in respect of high velocity pressure/vacuum relief valves model NEW-ISO-HV manufactured by TANKTECH Co. in the Republic of Korea" (2005/c 148/03).
