US Coast Guard plans oil spill response for 2005 - 2007

The US Coast Guard has published a notice announcing the Preparedness for Response Exercise Program (PREP) triennial cycle, 2005 through 2007. It requests comments from the public and requests industry participants to volunteer for scheduled PREP Area exercises. The PREP schedule for calendar years 2005, 2006, and 2007 for Government-led and Industry-led Area exercises is available here

If a company wants to volunteer for an Area exercise, a company representative may call either the Coast Guard or Environmental Protection Agency On-Scene Coordinator (OSC) where the exercise is scheduled.

The  National Schedule Coordination Committee (NSCC), the body which schedules these Area exercises, is considering whether or not to hold a public workshop on the state of the PREP.  Therefore, the notice requests comments on issues or concerns related to the  PREP and its guidelines. Depending on the comments made, a public workshop might be held in 2005.

The entire text of the USCG Notice on request for public comments on PREP triennial exercise schedule for 2005, 2006, and 2007, and PREP Guidelines can be seen here  where there are details on how and where to submit comments, or how to make contact in order to be part of these exercises.

We encourage members to consider participation and submitting comments as appropriate.
