US NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES REPORT 'OIL IN THE SEA III'

The US National Academy of Sciences has issued a Press Release announcing the publication of a new Report entitled 'Oil in the Sea III'

According to the report, approximately 1.3 million tonnes of petroleum enter the world's sea waters each year, only 12% of which is attributed to spills from tank vessels. In North American waters spills from tank vessels contribute only 4% while nearly 85% comes from land-based runoff, polluted rivers, airplanes, small boats, and jet skis.
