INTERTANKO Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar – 22 October, Manila, Philippines

INTERTANKO is hosting a Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar on 22 October in Manila. This Seminar is unique in that it is designed exclusively for seafarers. Attendees will benefit from guidance and information about various vetting and port state control matters as well as the process and best practice associated with vetting inspections. We hope to have a keynote speaker from the Philippines Government.

Whereas INTERTANKO regularly hosts vetting seminars which are aimed specifically at assisting CEOs, Superintendents, and Fleet Managers etc keep up-to-date by providing the latest information, input and insight from industry speakers about vetting and port state control related matters, INTERTANKO’s Vetting Committee, in recognition of the Association’s focus on Human Element, believes that a seminar for seafaring officers and crew, providing training/presentations to enhance understanding of the vetting process, is just as important as seminars conducted for CEOs, superintendents and managers. This Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar will address issues such as why ship inspections are undertaken and will provide guidance on preparing for and closing out an inspection.

First conducted in November 2007 (to view news article click here), the Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar attracted over 1300 attendees in October 2012 (to view news article click here). The Seminar is provided as a service to INTERTANKO membership and attendance is free of charge to seafaring officers working for member companies. However all attendees must be registered.

The venue for the Seminar is the Harbor Garden Tent at the Sofitel Hotel, Manila. This can accommodate some 2,000 delegates, so we encourage Members to register any and all seafarers who they feel will benefit from this seminar.

There is no limit on the number of attendees and therefore we strongly encourage Members to register and send as many seafarers as they feel will benefit from this unique half-day Seminar. Senior officers (deck and engine) and junior ranks and petty officers will all benefit from attending, by gaining an insight to the whole vetting process and by being better prepared for such inspections.

A certificate of attendance will be provided to all registered attendees.

The seminar is scheduled from 12:30 until 15:30 and will be chaired by Capt Michael Wilson, President of Laurin Maritime (America) Inc and Chairman of INTERTANKO's Vetting Committee. It will feature four speakers and a Q&A session.

Further details of the event and speakers will be announced in due course. To enable us to make adequate arrangements we request that all attendees are registered. Please download the registration form here.

Please bring this notice to the attention of your Crewing Departments, Vetting Departments and Manning Agencies.
