Tokyo MOU to carry out a concentrated inspection campaign on operational requirements

The Tokyo Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control has announced that it will carry out a concentrated inspection campaign (CIC) on operational requirements during the period of 1 September – 30 November 2005. This will take place in conjunction with routine port state control inspections.

The campaign is to promote the effective operation of shipboard equipment and to encourage compliance with safety and anti-pollution procedures. It will target the operational control provisions of SOLAS and MARPOL Conventions on all vessels, regardless of type.

Key areas covered include fire protection systems, life-saving appliances, crew drills, GMDSS, navigational safety and pollution prevention.

See press release for further details.
