INTERTANKO services

INTERTANKO is the voice of, and serves as the spokesbody for, independent tanker owners worldwide. It represents its members’ interests at all the major national, regional and international governmental and industrial organisations around the world. It has Non-Governmental Organisation status at the International Maritime Organisation where it is represented on all major committees and sub-committees.

INTERTANKO is an organisation directed by its members, not only through its Council and its Executive Committee, but also through its many expert committees. This strength, coming from its roots, provides independent tanker owners with an effective voice in the shipping industry.

INTERTANKO actively lobbies across a wide range of regulatory, commercial, technical, legal and operational issues affecting tanker owners around the world.

It draws on regular, direct contact with its members, and with sector stakeholders, to select and circulate to its members information deemed essential to tanker industry players.

Information Services
The Association provides members with a wide range of comprehensive information services, which include among others:

Weekly News: A weekly e-bulletin reporting on the most up-to-date issues, events, market information and ports information.

Various E-Bulletins: Facts and opinion on specific interests such as ship vetting, safety and environmental issues, chemicals, are distributed separately through dedicated e-bulletins to ensure that topical matters are quickly highlighted and conveyed to interested contacts.

Freight and Demurrage Information Pool: A database of charterers’ records on settlement of freight and demurrage. Special Circulars are also sent to members who have joined the information pool.

INTERTANKO Website
This is accessible 24-hrs a day, 7 days a week, giving members and associate members all the information they need at the click of a mouse. The website includes a variety of tools which have been developed with the membership in mind including information from and about the various INTERTANKO Committees.

Port Information: Contains the latest port disbursements as well as details of reception facilities worldwide.

Terminal Vetting Database: Includes reports on tanker terminals worldwide. It is a fact-finding and fact-sharing tool for the benefit of operational safety and environmental protection.

Benchmarking: Recognised as being an important tool in achieving INTERTANKO’s goal of striving for continuous improvement.

Members can also benefit from INTERTANKO’s market development data as well as statistics on the world economy and the oil markets. Up-todate information on the current tanker and chemical fleets, casualties and oil spills is also available to members.

Expert Advice
INTERTANKO members and associate members can also draw on expert advice on charter party questions, international regulations, port information as well as any other issue related to the tanker industry.

INTERTANKO members may also join the Association’s active Freight and Demurrage Information Pool (FDIP) which, as well as offering information (see above) can also assist members with the collection of outstanding money.

The INTERTANKO Secretariat is also happy to assist Members and Associate Members in requests they may receive to analyse specific issues or to present to the IMO, National Authorities, or other organisations.

Worldwide Offices: London, Oslo, Singapore, Washington DC

Members and Associate Members
are also entitled to direct expert opinion from experienced lawyers, mariners, naval architects, marine engineers, economists and other specialists working with or chosen by INTERTANKO. Our global network of contacts benefits members and associate members directly, and can work to solve specific problems from irregular cargoes to wrongfully-arrested ships.

Events
INTERTANKO’s Annual Tanker Event is regarded as the main industry gathering where members meet, listen to, and debate, the latest issues affecting the oil and tanker markets. This offers the chance to exchange views with the leading decision-makers in the tanker sector.

A number of different seminars (vetting, tanker chartering, crisis management) are organised yearly in key centres around the world, to give members the opportunity to keep abreast of, and debate, latest industry opinion.

INTERTANKO’s Regional Panels meet in Greece, North America, Latin America and the Far East/ South East Asia twice a year each to allow local members to learn about and discuss current issues, and to contribute to the Association’s Council meetings.

Publications & Marketing Opportunities
Members and Associate Members can also enjoy discounted advertising rates in INTERTANKO publications and can benefit from considerable reductions in the purchase price of Association publications and from special reductions in the cost of thirdparty events. Various marketing opportunities exist at the Annual Tanker Event and other events that take place throughout the year.

INTERTANKO Members are also entitled to use the INTERTANKO logo on their stationery/business cards.
