INTERTANKO Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar, 2 October, Manila, Philippines

In support of INTERTANKO’s focus on the Human Element, the Vetting Committee will conduct a vetting seminar for seafaring officers (home on leave) on 2 October in Manila. The Seafarers’ Vetting Seminar will provide training and presentations to enhance the understanding of the vetting process and why these inspections are undertaken, and to provide seafarers with guidance in preparing for and closing out such inspections.

INTERTANKO has hosted many vetting seminars which have been aimed at assisting CEOs, Superintendents, Fleet Managers etc. to maintain up-to-date information, input and insight into the vetting and Port State Control process. This seafarers’ seminar in Manila, however, is unique in that it is aimed specifically at providing guidance and training to the seafarers themselves, who are usually at the sharp end of vetting inspections.

First held in November 2007 (to view corresponding news article click here), the seminar will feature four speakers and a Q&A session and will be chaired by Capt Michael Wilson, President of Laurin Maritime (America) Inc and Chairman of INTERTANKO's Vetting Committee. We also hope to confirm a keynote address by a senior representative of the Philippines Government.

The NYK-TDG Maritime Academy (NTMA) at Canlubang, Laguna in the Philippines will be the venue (we express our gratitude to NYK for this assistance). This can take up to 1,000 delegates, so we encourage Members to register any and all seafarers who they feel will benefit from this seminar.

Senior officers (deck and engine) will benefit from attending, but also junior ranks and petty officers will gain an insight into the whole vetting process and will be better prepared by attending the seminar.

This seminar is provided as a service to INTERTANKO Members and is free of charge for seafaring officers working for INTERTANKO member companies. All we ask is that Members register all those attending by providing us in advance with a list of the names of attending officers on the registration form provided. This will enable us to provide appropriate administration, and also certification on completion of the seminar.

A certificate of attendance will be provided to all the seafarers who attend.
