Chemical tanker orderbook 14% of current fleet with 66% to be delivered in 2003 (Source: Drewry)

According to the latest Drewry Chemical Carrier Quarterly, at the end of 2002 the chemical carrier fleet stood at 1,761 tankers of 24.4 million dwt. The fleet is estimated to have grown by 1.2% in 2002, not as strongly as in previous years due to increased levels of recycling. During 2002, 78 chemical tankers of 1.6 million dwt were ordered, which was significantly higher than in previous years...... More

According to the statistics of the ISL (Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics, Bremen) 47.1% of the tanker fleet (1,000 GT and above) is controlled by European-based companies, 9% in North America, 2.3% in Latin and South America, 36% in Asia and Oceania, 0.8% in Africa and 4.9% in the rest of the world or no information available.... Sharper than expected recovery in Venezuelan oil production

According to the April IEA Oil Market Report, Venezuelan oil production has recovered more sharply than expected. Bottlenecks in storage at the eastern port of Jose proved short-lived. Crude oil exports were well in excess of 1 mbd for the month of March. Conventional crude oil production is estimated to have increased to above 1.9 mbd by the second week of March with a gradual rise to about 2....... More


Increase in FSU net oil exports - IEA

Preliminary estimates from IEA show that net oil exports from the Former Soviet Union (FSU) increased to 6 mbd in March 2003. Loadings at Black Sea terminals increased sharply as the stormy weather subsided and as tanker delays in the Bosporous Strait eased. Of the 6 mbd exported, 3 mbd came from the Black Sea.
