INTERTANKO lunch for diplomats in Oslo

Oslo-based diplomats from 28 countries, leading industry figures and INTERTANKO staff assembled on 11 December for lunch at Shippingklubben, hosted by INTERTANKO's Vice-Chairman, Patrick Decavele. This is the twelfth time INTERTANKO has arranged such a lunch in Oslo.

In his speech before commencement of the lunch, Decavele took the opportunity to emphasise the importance of international standards and regulation of shipping; the need for proper plans for places of refuge; shipping's proactive approach to protect the environment - for instance through initiatives on recycling, anti-fouling, reception facilities and air emissions.

He also underlined the importance of the human element in shipping and went on to refer to tanker shipping as a responsible industry, used to self-regulation through e.g. the Tripartite Dialogue between ship owners, shipbuilders and classification societies
