INTERTANKO speaks to Dalian Maritime University students

INTERTANKO’s Regional Manager Asia-Pacific, Tim Wilkins, visited Dalian Maritime University this week and provided postgraduate students and lecturers with an overview of INTERTANKO and the tanker industry, as well as of the international challenges for the shipping sector as a whole.

In a lively two hour session at the University’s East Hill Campus, Wilkins was engaged in debate on a range of issues, from the efforts being undertaken by ship owners to improve the quality of life for seafarers, to debate on the success of double-hulls and international pollution prevention legislation.

It was clear that the students took an interest in all facets of the industry’s challenges and had a strong understanding of those challenges. Detailed questions on aspects of environmental, safety, regulatory and corporate responsibility were thrown into the debate.

INTERTANKO looks forward to future opportunities to engage with Dalian and other maritime universities in the future.

In a separate engagement, INTERTANKO was glad to be able to visit and speak with COSCO Dalian representatives, giving an update on the latest INTERTANKO activities to over 40 members of COSCO Dalian Shipping Division, its Quality Division and its Safety Division.
