INTERTANKO Northern European Panel meets for first time in Copenhagen

INTERTANKO’s Northern European Panel held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday 8 October 2008 in Copenhagen under the chairmanship of Lars Mossberg (CEO, Marinvest Shipping AB) and vice-chairmanship of Lars Christensen (Senior-vice President, Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S) with delegates coming from Norway, Germany, Russia, Sweden, United Kingdom and Denmark.

Whilst INTERTANKO is working on an array of important issues, the focus of the meeting was to brief the members on three main topics of our work programme, including Air Emissions from Ships (Reduction of Green House Gases and revision of Annex VI), Human Element (TOTS) and Maritime Security (Piracy).

Furthermore, Kristian Fuglesang, INTERTANKO Associate Director, and Ketil Djonne, INTERTANKOs Brussels consultant, provided a comprehensive overview European Union's structure and the roles of the European Commission, Council and European Parliament. They elaborated on the upcoming changes with the upcoming elections and pointed out where INTERTANKO possibly could play role.

A discussion was also held by the panel members on issues that are of their concern i.a. quality of bunkers, ballast water issues, electronic bills of lading and crewing issues (visa).

The Spring meeting of the panel will take place end March/early April 2009.
