Tanker Event - Executive Committee members commit to TOTS

At a well-attended meeting in Istanbul, all members of INTERTANKO’s Executive Committee  present agreed to ensure that their respective companies would comply with INTERTANKO’s TOTS (Tanker Officer Training Standard) or an equivalent standard.  The Committee also agreed to encourage the Council members to do the same.

The Executive Committee paid tribute to the work undertaken by the INTERTANKO team in connection with the revision of MARPOL Annex VI on air pollution from ships. The outcome at the IMO was welcomed as it met the goals set by the Association to ensure a solid platform of requirements that are realistic and feasible, will ensure a long-term and positive reduction of air emissions from ships, and contribute to a long-term and predictable regulatory scheme.

As is customary, the Executive Committee reviewed a number of administrative issues, including recommendations to the Council with regard to new members of the Committee and the venue (Tokyo) for the next Tanker Event and Annual General Meeting (AGM), enhanced Brussels representation, review of INTERTANKO’s Panel structure and the Financial Statement for 2007.

The Committee paid particular tribute to the outgoing chairman of INTERTANKO’s Safety, Technical and Environment Committee (ISTEC) Dean Tseretopoulos.
