Panama Canal - temporary measures to mitigate world economic situation

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has created a package of temporary measures designed to reduce transit costs. These measures will be effective on 1 June 2009 and continue until 30 September 2009.

Click here to view a Press Release covering the measures, which include "Temporary redefinition of Ballast for Full Containership" and "Temporary Modifications to the Reservation System". Click here to view Advisory to Shipping No. A-07-2009 which provides detailed information on the current and temporary Reservation Fee tariffs in a table format.

INTERTANKO has, in cooperation with the International Chamber of Shipping and its other Round Table partners, lobbied against the announced further increase of the Transit Tariff (as from 1 May 2009) and will continue the dialogue with the ACP with the aim of obtaining further concessions related to transit cost for tankers.
