INTERTANKO Executive Committee meets in Copenhagen

The third INTERTANKO Executive Committee meeting of 2009 was held on 11 September 2009 in Copenhagen, and was hosted by Maersk Tankers.

Nicholas G. Fistes chaired the meeting, which was attended for the first time by three new Executive Committee members: Tsuneo Watanabe, Managing Executive Officer of Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd; Bob Bishop, CEO of V Ships Shipmanagement; and Nikos Tsakos, President and CEO of Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) Limited.

The Executive Committee discussed the responses from Members to the questionnaire regarding the organisation of INTERTANKO circulated earlier in the year. These responses indicate a wide range of views, which will be co-ordinated to present to INTERTANKO's Council in November.

Continuing to dominate the agenda is the issue of Greenhouse Gases. The Executive Committee discussed the use of various indices, Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP), market-based instruments and emission reduction targets. The Committee also discussed the introduction of the EU Sulphur Directive on 1 January 2010.

Further important issues, including the economic crisis, piracy and 'virtual arrival', were highlighted.
