Seminar on the global shortage of seafarers and what the shipping industry can do

The above Seminar, which is being hosted jointly by the Nippon Foundation and the Japan International Transport Institute (JITI) and supported by the Round Table of international shipping associations, will be held at the IMO Headquarters in London on 11 May 2010.

It will examine the global shortage of seafarers. Discussions will focus on what the shipping industry needs to do to secure the necessary quantity of quality young people who can pursue a lifetime career in the seafaring profession. It will also look at how the shipping industry as an employment field must become much more attractive and competitive.

Is the fundamental solution to improve the public image and status of the shipping industry by developing a corporate social responsibility agenda that will attract potential young seafarers to the maritime profession?

Details of the programme may be found here and the registration form here.
