INTERTANKO participates in National Institute of Oilseed Products (NIOP) technical meeting

At the request of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Oilseed Products (NIOP), INTERTANKO participated in this week’s meeting of the Institute’s Technical Committee in Washington, DC.

The NIOP is an international trade association with the principal objective of promoting the general business welfare of persons, firms and corporations engaged in the buying, selling, processing, shipping, storage and use of vegetable oils and raw materials.

The technical meeting’s agenda included:

·         A report from the Institute of Shortening and Edible Oils ( ISEO)

·         A report from the European Oleochemicals and Allied Products Group  (APAG)

·         A report from the Codex Alimentarius Commission Committee on Fats and Oils (CCFO)

·         An International Maritime Organization  (IMO) update.

INTERTANKO updated the NIOP Technical Committee on relevant IMO issues including an update from the 11th session of the Sub-Committee on Bulk Liquid and Gases (BLG), the subsequent Working Group on Environmental Safety and Pollution Hazards (ESPH) and the upcoming 56th Session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) to be held next month in London.

INTERTANKO has recently established reciprocal membership with the NIOP in order to enhance the dialog with the manufacturers and shippers of oilseed products, which has proven very useful to our members.
