INTERTANKO attends Life Saving Appliances (LSA) Workshop at U.K.'s MCA

This week INTERTANKO attended a workshop which focused on Life Saving Appliances (LSA) and was organised by the U.K.'s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The MCA had invited representatives from various industry bodies to discuss and comment on the development of U.K. policy on lifeboats.

The aim of the workshop was to discuss:

  • Design parameters of on-load release hooks of lifeboats
  • Interim measures to prevent accidents with lifeboats
  • Means of recovering persons from sea for all types of vessels

The workshop, which is taking place as we go to press, will allow the MCA to develop a policy and provide the MCA with input with regard to the ongoing IMO correspondence group focusing on life saving appliances. A report will follow next week.
