Australia – prevention of accidents with lifeboats

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has issued Marine Notice 12/2007 reminding owners, operators, and masters of measures that may be taken to reduce the high incidence of accidents involving lifeboats. Modifications should not be made to lifeboats and their associated equipment without the prior approval of the relevant manufacturer. The notice also provides for the establishment of independent lifeboat servicing and testing organisations in Australia.
